Lively exchange of practical experience on the subject of quality management at the conference of the European Six Sigma Club Germany (ESSC-D) in Hanover
Over 60 participants from manufacturing companies came together at a one-day conference in Hanover at the beginning of November to share their experiences. The central topic was quality improvement through Six Sigma, hosted by Continental Contitech, the specialist for rubber and plastics technology. In the automotive industry, for which Contitech works as a development partner and original equipment manufacturer, Six Sigma has been an integral part of quality improvement for years, but not only there. The ESSC-D strives for uniformly high training standards for Six Sigma experts across all industries. “In view of the impending shortage of skilled workers, the qualification of employees is an issue that is becoming increasingly urgent,” says Heinz-Gerhard Wente, Continental’s Chief Human Resources Officer.
In Hanover, experts reported on successful Six Sigma projects in various areas of application: on increasing the efficiency of laboratory tests in development projects, reducing pseudo errors in pressure tests, on the development, establishment and operation of successful improvement systems and on synergies between Six Sigma and lean management. The interest shown by Hannover Medical School, which took part in the conference because it is specifically looking for ways to apply the method in everyday clinical practice, shows that Six Sigma has a wide range of applications. “We are delighted about the significant increase in interest in Six Sigma and are planning further events with industry partners,” says Dieter Szemkus, Chairman of the ESSC-D, in view of the strong demand for places at this conference.
