Around 100 participants spent two days at the ESSC-D’s annual conference in March discussing current approaches to process improvement and the prospects of Six Sigma and Business Excellence for the future. In five parallel workshops, the experts developed forward-looking approaches in the areas of statistical data analysis, agile project management, digitalization and Six Sigma perspectives for the next ten years. There were also practical presentations from companies such as Mahle, Festo and BioNTech. One highlight was the presentation of the German Six Sigma Award for Business Excellence as part of the festive evening event, which was entertainingly framed by the performance of the improv theater “Improglycerin” from Frankfurt.
The ESSC-D is continuing its successful online lecture series. The next event will be held on May 5, 2023 on the topic of “Machine learning for predicting severe damage events in hospitals”. The success of the approach has been confirmed by applications in recent years. With the help of machine learning, it was possible to optimize the prognosis of severe disease progression in COVID-19 patients. High-risk patients can be identified with a high degree of accuracy within 24 hours of presenting to hospital. Another example is the early prediction of kidney failure based on a few laboratory values. “We are delighted to have gained Prof. Dr. Maik Kschischo from the RheinAhrCampus at Koblenz University of Applied Sciences as an experienced expert on this topic,” says Michael Ohler from the ESSC-D Executive Board.
