Saving resources through Six Sigma

At the annual conference of the European Six Sigma Club Germany (ESSC-D) in Bayreuth, over 100 participants gathered new ideas on the use of the Six Sigma methodology. A central theme of the two-day event was the expansion of the use of the method. This includes the implementation of the German resource efficiency program ProgRess II. “The Six Sigma methodology can help to develop new products and processes in a resource-efficient way or to produce existing products in a more resource-efficient way,” said Herbert Theato, ESSC-D Board Member. Speakers from the Association of German Engineers (VDI) and the European Network for Business and Industrial Statistics (ENBIS) also provided insights into additional areas of application. The overall increased use of Six Sigma in service areas and in the development of new products and processes through Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) is evident.

During the festive evening event, the prizes for the German Six Sigma Award 2015 were presented to the winners. The main prize went to Verena Köpnick from Kempten University of Applied Sciences for her thesis “Data analysis of process-relevant parameters of machine types in the medical sector to optimize calibration”.
