The European Six Sigma Club Deutschland e.V. (ESSC-D) annually honors the best work and achievements in the field of Six Sigma methodology and business excellence. The German Six Sigma Award for Business Excellence is a recognition for project managers and their teams who have applied and/or further developed the Six Sigma methodology, as well as other process optimization methods/management approaches, in an excellent manner. New since 2022 is that work from the following four subject areas can be submitted:

1. six sigma and lean management

2. agile management

3. process management

4. digitalization and industrial transformation.

Categories

Category 1: “Scientific work”

Every year, the European Six Sigma Club Deutschland e.V. (ESSC-D) recognizes the best scientific work on the further development and application of business excellence methods. New approaches and ideas that are examined and presented in student research projects, bachelor’s or master’s theses are awarded and made accessible to a wide range of interested parties.

Category 2: “Practice”

This award recognizes the best practical application of business excellence projects. The projects from business and administration demonstrate excellent procedures, such as Six Sigma, Lean Management etc.

Prices

The award ceremony will take place in December.

Category 1: “Scientific work”

German Six Sigma Award in Gold: 500€
German Six Sigma Award in Silver: 300€
German Six Sigma Award in Bronze: 200€

Category 2: “Practice”

German Six Sigma Award Practice: 500€

All award winners will also be invited to attend the ESSC-D conference in March of the following year. For the German Six Sigma Award for Business Excellence Practice, team members are also invited to the event.

The winners in both categories of the German Six Sigma Award for Business Excellence in Gold will present their work at the conference. The trophies and certificates will be presented during the evening event of the conference.

Conditions of participation and main topics

Works and projects that have been completed in the last 24 months can be submitted. The works/projects should be categorized into one of the 4 main topics.

Six Sigma & Lean Management

Submission Examples:

  1. Development of an implementation concept for Six Sigma at an SME
  2. Optimization of material provision in production
  3. Optimization of the SMED method in an assembly plant

Agile management

Submission Examples:

  1. Setup and implementation of a Kanban board in development
  2. Improving product development using design thinking
  3. Implementation of a SCRUM organization

Process management

Submission Examples:

  1. Analysis and optimization of the production planning process
  2. Investigation of purchasing processes with the help of Makigami analysis
  3. Development of a process map for an SME

Digitalization & industrial transformation

Submission Examples:

  1. Introduction of an MES system in 6 months
  2. Implementation of wearables in assembly
  3. Concept study on the use of augmented reality to improve human-technology interaction

Submission modalities

Only one document is submitted for the application, which must contain the following information:

  • Brief information on the project manager including acquired business excellence knowledge, university or company.
  • Project report including project assignment (for category “Practice”).
  • Scientific paper including assignment (for category “Scientific paper”).
  • Selected main topic (see the 4 topics above) in the message

Further information:

  • It is recommended to limit the length of the document to about 50 pages.
  • Only the submitted document will be used to assess the work. Subsequent submissions are not possible.
  • Blocking notices will of course be taken into account and treated confidentially.
  • Submissions can be made all year round.
  • Acceptance for the respective year ends on August 31 of that year.
  • To submit, first fill out the submission form and send the required documents to the e-mail address provided after receiving a confirmation e-mail.

Jury and criteria

The entries are evaluated by an independent jury of business excellence experts with many years of practical experience.

The following criteria are primarily considered in detail for the evaluation:

  1. Tool application
  2. Creativity
  3. Customer focus
  4. Focus on quality

Submissions

The work, including the task description and the grade sheet, must be submitted in electronic form.
