Six Sigma conference on resource conservation and digitalization

At the annual conference of the European Six Sigma Club Germany (ESSC-D) on 8 and 9 March 2018 in Bad Kissingen, the focus was on the two key topics of resource conservation and digitalization. Over 100 experts from all over Germany discussed these topics with the speakers. In his presentation, Viktor Becker from the Association of German Engineers (VDI) explained how digitalization in the manufacturing industry contributes to the conservation of natural resources through the complete and comprehensive recording of material flows. Greg Kinsey from Hitachi Vantara and Prof. Oliver Mayer from General Electric highlighted the opportunities that the advancing digitalization of other business areas and processes offers for Six Sigma experts in particular. For example, compared to a pure data analyst, a Six Sigma expert combines their specific process knowledge with general data analysis skills. This is a clear advantage that directly benefits companies. Six Sigma experts should therefore contribute and expand such skills through increased involvement in the digitalization process. “We should discover interesting new territory here and set standards,” says Dr. Michael Ohler, board member of the ESSC-D. The future prospects for Six Sigma also appear good in light of the upcoming digitalization.
