Every year, the European Six Sigma Club Deutschland e.V. (ESSC-D) honors scientific work that deals with the application of the Six Sigma methodology. To this end, it looks for the best work on the further development of the Six Sigma methodology at German-speaking universities and colleges. In 2018, the gold award went to Elisa Wirthmann from Friedrich-Alexander University (FAU) in Erlangen-Nuremberg for her master’s thesis “Six Sigma in teaching: Ensuring compliance with the guidelines for students’ academic work with the help of Six Sigma”. The silver prize went to Thomas Herrmann from Landshut University of Applied Sciences for his master’s thesis “Optimizing barrel filling quantities in electroplating using Six Sigma”. Jessica Wohlert from Koblenz University of Applied Sciences won bronze for her Master’s thesis
“Identification of optimization potential in the price deviation process at MAN Truck & Bus AG”. Manuel Kugler received the “German Six Sigma Award Practice” for the best practical application of the Six Sigma methodology for the project “Optimization of the switching behavior of a pneumatic solenoid valve” at Festo AG & Co KG, Esslingen. “The work is of outstanding quality and at the same time demonstrates the practical orientation of Six Sigma,” says Almut Melzer, leading member of the ESSC-D jury.
